For the creators of Bioshock: Infinite photorealism is irrelevant

Irrational Games, creators of the hit series that Bioshock his new installment will have already March, photorealistic graphics are not quite as important, and they will not be beat in this pattern when designing their games. Design director Bill Gardner agree that most players want photorealistic graphics in games.

To some extent this is true, you get new drivers, new graphics cards and I really want to show what they are capable of. So what is a better way than saying, “Hey, this is New York,” and to show their best game on maximum settings, so it sells the realism, I think.’

But:

Look at Elizabeth and she does not look ultra fotorealistycznie. It is not our goal, we want to make it believable and loved. I think there are many people who would like to tweak the settings of your graphics card to the maximum but as branżowiec I think it’s a misunderstanding (that players want photorealism) mixed with going too straight path.

 

Later in the interview Bill admits that they are not interested in photorealism in games and put more on the elaborate style. In some productions, photorealism is indicated in others, just the choice of form and we know what we can expect from Irrational Games in the future!
